Overview
Matt Dowling is a partner at WSHB’s Atlanta office and a seasoned trial lawyer with more than 15 years of experience representing clients in state and federal courts, both at the trial and appellate levels. He focuses his practice on defending businesses and individuals facing high-stakes litigation, including catastrophic injury and wrongful death claims, with particular expertise in complex premises liability matters. Matt’s litigation background also encompasses commercial, professional liability, and product liability disputes, tried both in court and before arbitration panels.
Earlier in his career, Matt represented plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury and product liability cases. This dual perspective equips him with unique insight into opposing strategies and strengthens his advocacy for clients. Since moving to the defense side in 2015, Matt has authored and argued numerous dispositive motions, consistently achieving favorable results for his clients, including dismissals and summary judgments.
Matt is recognized for his comprehensive handling of every phase of litigation, from pre-suit investigations to appeals, including first-chair trial experience. He is known for his ability to quickly identify critical issues and risks, providing clients with strategic analysis early in a case. This proactive approach allows clients to make informed decisions, manage risk, and resolve disputes efficiently. Matt collaborates closely with clients to develop tailored litigation strategies, seeking resolution through negotiation, trial, or appeal as best serves their interests.
Matt is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and is admitted to practice before all Georgia state and federal courts. He has also appeared pro hac vice in courts across Kentucky, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Washington, D.C.
