Wood Smith Henning and Berman is pleased to announce the addition of a new partner in its Atlanta office, further strengthening the firm's capabilities in high-exposure civil litigation, catastrophic injury defense, and complex premises liability matters.
With more than 15 years of experience, Matthew Dowling joins the firm with a distinguished practice focused on resolving catastrophic injury and wrongful death claims arising from premises liability and negligent security allegations. His practice is defined by strategic case evaluation, disciplined exposure management, and efficient resolution strategies that consistently position clients for favorable outcomes while preserving trial readiness when litigation demands it.
A unique strength he brings to the firm is prior plaintiff-side experience, which provides valuable insight into opposing counsel's evaluation methods, negotiation tactics, and litigation strategy. This perspective allows him to assess exposure early, identify leverage points quickly, and craft targeted defense strategies designed to shorten case life cycles, control costs, and maximize opportunities for early and advantageous resolution.
"Adding a partner with this depth of litigation experience and strategic vision is a tremendous win for our Atlanta office and for our clients nationally," said Richard Zelonka, managing partner of the Atlanta office. "He understands how to evaluate exposure early, navigate complex liability claims, and resolve matters efficiently without losing sight of trial strategy. That combination is incredibly valuable in today's litigation environment."
In addition to serving as primary litigation counsel for insured clients, he has extensive experience managing insurer relationships, advising carriers and businesses on liability exposure, risk assessment, reserve strategy, and practical pathways to resolution in high stakes matters.
"I am excited to join a firm known for strategic thinking, strong client partnerships, and litigation excellence," Dowling said. "I look forward to helping clients navigate high-exposure matters with practical, efficient, and results-driven strategies."
Dowling's arrival marks another important step in the continued growth of WSHB's Atlanta office and reinforces the firm's commitment to building elite trial teams in key markets nationwide.
