Overview

Jonathan “Boomer” Hart is a partner in WSHB’s Tampa office, representing admitted and surplus lines insurers in complex first-party insurance matters throughout the State of Florida. Boomer assists insurers with first-party claims issues, including legal assistance with claims investigations, examinations under oath, and coverage opinions. He defends insurers against allegations of breach of contract, bad faith, and other extra-contractual relief. Boomer has significant experience in first-party matters involving disasters, wind/hail, fraud, theft, suspected arson, business interruption claims, appraisal, and plumbing failures in both residential and commercial properties. In connection with his insurance practice, Boomer regularly advises numerous London market insuring syndicates and defends them in Florida Courts.

Earlier in his career, Boomer focused his practice on defending nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and long-term care providers, representing owners, operators, and management companies in negligence, wrongful death, and regulatory-related litigation. Through this work, he gained hands-on experience with issues unique to long-term care facilities, including resident care standards, staffing and supervision claims, corporate governance and agency defenses, and the intersection of civil litigation with Florida’s regulatory framework governing skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. This background provides Boomer with a practical understanding of the operational and litigation risks faced by healthcare and long-term care providers, which he continues to draw upon in advising insurer clients and evaluating complex liability exposures.

In addition to his extensive legal practice, Boomer has a distinguished academic background. He is a cum laude graduate of Stetson University College of Law, where he was the recipient of the Walter Mann Award, selected to join the National Order of Barristers, and served as president of the Moot Court Board. While attending law school, he was a judicial extern for the Honorable K. Rodney May of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida and the Honorable Elizabeth A. Kovachevich of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Boomer received his undergraduate degree in finance and business management from Florida State University.
