Wood Smith Henning & Berman announce that New York office co-managing partner, Tracy Abatemarco, will serve as a panelist at the 2026 CLM Construction Conference, where she will share insights on the evolving role of defense counsel in identifying and defending against fraud in complex construction claims.
Abatemarco will speak during session two, "Defense Counsel's Role in Fraud-Driven Litigation," on September 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Joining her on the panel are fellow thought leaders Donald Orlando of Tradesman Program Managers and Kirk Willis of The Willis Law Group.
As fraud continues to play an increasingly significant role in high-exposure construction claims, the panel will examine how early involvement by defense counsel can strengthen investigations, improve collaboration among claims professionals, Special Investigation Units (SIUs), and insurance carriers, as well as help develop effective litigation strategies. The discussion will also explore how fraud can influence coverage positions and shape the course of litigation.
"The most effective fraud investigations begin long before a case reaches the courtroom," said Abatemarco. "I look forward to discussing practical strategies that help defense counsel, insurers, and claims professionals work together to identify fraudulent activity early, preserve critical evidence, and strengthen defense of complex claims."
The Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Construction Conference will take place September 23-25, 2026, at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. Dedicated exclusively to construction claims, insurance, and risk management, the conference offers three days of in-depth educational programming, professional development, and networking opportunities for mid- to senior-level claims and litigation professionals. Attendees will participate in roundtable discussions, panel presentations, and expert-led sessions focused on today's most pressing issues affecting the construction industry.
"Tracy's invitation to speak reflects her deep experience handling complex construction litigation and insurance matters," said Founding Partner Stephen Henning. "Her knowledge of fraud-driven litigation and collaborative claims strategies will provide valuable insights for industry professionals navigating increasingly sophisticated claims."
Abatemarco focuses her practice on construction and labor law litigation, premises, lead paint, mold, toxic tort, transportation, and complex general liability and casualty actions. Her clients include insurance companies, financial institutions, and real estate owners and managers. She has extensive experience in state and appellate practice and has enjoyed success in the trial, appellate, and arbitration forums.
