Jumps 23 Spots on American Lawyer’s 2020 National Diversity Scorecard

Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman LLP (WSHB) is proud to announce their top three national ranking on The American Lawyer’s 2020 Diversity Scorecard.

American Lawyer’s Diversity Scorecard records the average number of full-time-equivalent minority attorneys at Am Law 200 and National Law Journal 250 law firms in the calendar year 2019.

WSHB jumped 23 places from their ranking in the previous year, landing on their current spot at no. 3 on this year’s list.

“Recent events have again placed the issue of race in the forefront of social commentary, highlighting the fact that as a nation, we still have so much work to do,” said senior counsel Jordan Gaskins in the firm’s Glendale office. “It is encouraging to see WSHB make a significant jump in diversity from last year to enter into the top five of the Diversity Scorecard. It is also great to see advancement in minority inclusion overall, and I hope that we can continue this trend.”

National recognition has been lavished on WSHB in the past for its efforts on diversity and inclusion. The DRI bestowed its prestigious Law Firm Diversity Award to the firm in 2014, and Law360 named WSHB as one of the “Best Law Firms for Minority Attorneys.” In addition, WSHB has been ranked as one of the top ten law firms in the nation in the prestigious Law360 “The 100 Best Law Firms for Female Attorneys” as well as one of the top two law firms in the nation for inclusiveness of women lawyers in the National Law Journal’s Women Scorecard.

The annual Am Law Diversity Survey, considered the “gold standard” for rankings, ranks law firms according to a score based on their combined percentage of minority lawyers and minority partners in U.S. offices.

“Having started with the firm as a law clerk over 20 years ago and now as a partner leading our Recruiting Committee, I have seen firsthand that diversity and inclusion are core values at the firm, said Domingo Tan. “I am proud that the firm actively recruits, hires and promotes attorneys of diverse backgrounds and that we are a strong representation of the different clients and communities that we serve around the country.”
